If you have been around Flagstaff and Northern Arizona for any length of time, you probably know Tony Norris from his involvement in music, writing, storytelling and community building activities. For over 40 years, Tony has enthusiastically promoted other musicians and writers, as well as performed for programs in the public schools, on radio shows, and at many local events and festivals.

As a co-founding member of Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music, Tony has greatly influenced the folk music scene, helping to pave the way for several meaningful musical events including The Cowboy Campfire NIght at the Zane Grey Ballroom (with Warren Miller and Bill Vernieu),The Flagstaff Folk Festival, and Pickin’ in the Pines Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival, where Tony has appeared as performer and emcee.

In addition to being an incredible source of history and song, his melodious singing voice and solid guitar playing has delighted crowds near and far. Tony has soothed babies with lullabies, wooed lovers with corazónes, and entertained all ages with his gifted storytelling of both better and hard times. His regular contributions to the newspaper column “Letters from Home” which was his brainchild, showcases his poignant and empathic writing skills. Tony is truly a Flagstaff institution and part of the vibrant artistic landscape that makes our town so very special.

Tony has been struggling with Myasthenia Gravis for six years. He is housebound and unable to work. Decades of being a performing musician have not filled his Social Security coffers and Tony is in need of our help in order to stay in his home, cover basic expenses, and receive the vital care he requires that are not covered services.

On Sunday, August 20 from 3:00 - 6:00  PM Tony’s friends and family are hosting a fundraiser for him at Charly’s Pub located in the historic Weatherford Hotel at 23 North Leroux in downtown Flagstaff which includes performances from his musical friends, and an auction under the direction of Colonel Russell Mann. We hope you will join us, but if you cannot attend in person you can still help support Tony by making a contribution directly to Tony or through his GoFund Me account.

We are also seeking items for the auction: art, jewelry, services (automobile, yardwork, beauty, spa etc.), experiences/events (overnight stays, dining, adventures, tickets, lessons, etc.), gift baskets, gift cards, and whatever you can offer. Please contact Shannon Lynch,Tony’s bonus daughter at LOML2323@gmail.com if you have any questions or items you’d like to contribute.
